Top user-friendly linux distros for newbies.
What's up guys? In this post we'll see the best linux distributions for new linux users. So let's see -
(They are not in a particular order:)
If you're coming from macOS and have some experience with command line you won't have issues in any
Debian
Okay guys, this is the first one. I basically prefer this over ubuntu as it's less bloated. It uses apt as it's package manager. It's stable version has very old repos but I prefer the testing edition. It is super stable and hardly breaks. You can get gnome or kde or xfce depending on your choice. So if you're a newbie, go with this but there are some cons too.(Mentioned below)
The installation process is a bit tedious than there in ubuntu and Linux mint etc but not as tough as in arch and gentoo.
If you want something super user-friendly, I'd say ........Stay away from it.......
Ubuntu
Choice of most users and sweet spot for many..
It uses apt as it's package manger. Derived from Debian and more popular than it. It's also very stable and has many repositories. It uses Unity as it's basic desktop manager but comes in other forms too.
The installation process is fairly simple and you don't have to worry much. I can't think of a more user-friendly distro than this one. Few of them are equal in user-friendliness.
As for cons, it's bloated. It's very heavy, so don't use it if your system is low-end.
Manjaro
So now we've come to an arch based distro. This one is derived from Arch linux and uses pacman as it's package manager. For AUR you can use yay. It is quite stable and pretty much user friendly. This one is the most used arch based distro... even more than vanilla arch linux these days.
Unlike Vanilla arch linux, it's installation process is fairly simple. You just got to boot into live USB and install it from there. I've got a guide of it's installation in virtualbox, you can use that to get a fair idea.
As for cons, It lacks nothing. Some people may find systemd bloated, but I'm not one of them.
Multiboot guide is coming very soon. Stay tuned!!!
Linux Mint
This is the choice of many debian fans. And it should be. You know why????? Let's find out -
Linux Mint is a debian based distro and uses apt as it's package manager. It ships with cinnamon, xfce etc as a desktop manager. It's very stable too and has a lot of repos.
It's user friendly and and easy to install. If you guys want a multiboot guide, just let me know in the comments below.
As for cons, like it's parent ubuntu, it's somewhat bloated.
Fedora
I'd not recommend this to a beginner. Fedora is a bit different and it uses rpm as it's package manager. It frequently gets updated and you'll be always on bleeding edge. Fedora is most secure of these all and most software here are OSS. It ships with either gnome, kde or xfce.
I'd recommend you this if privacy and security is your thing. The installation is not very tough but not as easy as mint.
As for cons, bleeding edge(For most people). Moreover this isn't that user friendly.
Author's words -
Guys! If you ask me, I'd choose either Arch, Debian or Fedora. I personally don't like derivatives. Btw, I use Arch in my main computer:)
So the choice is yours. Use whatever you feel like. If you're not confident, try all of them once in virtualbox and then make a decision. But don't distrohop!!!!!!!!!!!!
